I did a little research on our dear friend, the bullet point. Did you know that:
- A bullet point is not a sentence
- Reveals the key idea only
- Always start them with a verb or noun (a verb is more action orientated and usually preferred...)
- They should always be in the same tense
- They are usually CAPITALIZED at the beginning of each sentence
- Keep a 6x6 guideline (6 bullet points, followed by around 6 words, but not always)
I never knew bullet points had a set of rules behind them, and we'll see how many of them I actually follow! I'm guessing not a lot. Ochman also tells us that we are allowed to "Forget what you learned about business writing in school!"
In this blog, brace yourself for repeated grammatical errors, poor sentence structure, interesting topics (to some), and not a lot of thought on bullet points.
